Synopsis:
As one of the most dramatic Presidential campaigns in U.S History reaches a boiling point, Gavin Heffernan's experimental documentary about the Peace Movement in the United States takes a passionate, often disturbing look at a divided nation. Created in the vein of KOYANNISQATSI, GRAND WHEEL features exclusive footage from an eclectic list of settings - including a Surfside Veteran's Memorial, a California Carnival, and an Iraq War Protest in downtown Los Angeles. An alumnus of McGill University and the AFI Conservatory, Canadian Born Writer/Director Gavin Heffernan first hit the independent scene with his microbudget feature film EXPIRATION. Catching the attention of Variety, Film Festival Today and Ain't it Cool News, the $10,000 feature shot on the streets of Montreal would take Grand Prize at the Canadian Filmmakers Festival and later be named "the first major work of the Student-DV New Wave" by The Film Journal. After graduating from AFI in January 2007, Heffernan co-founded THE FILM SUMMIT - an industry event focused on preserving cinematic relations between Canada and Hollywood, featuring works from the American Film Institute and Canadian Film Centre. Co-financed by Executive Producers Michael Huffington and Steve Bing, Heffernan's AFI Thesis Film SANTA CROCE was distributed Worldwide on December 16, 2007 through Itunes and Shorts International. Plans for next feature film DEPARTURE are currently underway. |
