Synopsis:
Before there was Siskel and Ebert, before there was Simon Cowell Ð there was Rex Reed. He was the first superstar movie critic, the first celebrity journalist who became a celebrity himself by appearing on TV and in the movies. He helped push the idea that movies and movie stars were as important to our culture as politics and the economy Ð even as he pierced the veil to show that celebrities were, in many ways, just like you and me. Forty years after he blazed across the scene, he's still going strong Ð a brand-name movie critic whose name and face remain easily recognizable, even if his influence has waned. But the scene he helped create Ð whether in terms of movie criticism or the nature of celebrity journalism Ð has changed drastically. Director's Bio:
Marshall Fine is a freelance writer who is film/TV critic for Star magazine and a regular contributor to the Sunday Now! section of the New York Daily News. Previously, he was a nationally syndicated film and TV critic and entertainment writer for Gannett News Service. He is a member and three-time chairman of the New York Film Critics Circle. His writing has appeared in USA Today, the Los Angeles Times, New York Observer, Premiere, Cosmopolitan, the Huffington Post and Entertainment Weekly. He conducted the Playboy Interview with both Howard Stern and Tim Robbins. |
