Synopsis:
'Bat and Hat' is a lyrical and monstrous meditation on when the mundane becomes gruesome. Bloody, strange, and charming, the film separates the audience into individuals, making them a part of the spectacle as they laugh, gasp, or squirm. At its core, the film is an exploration of what it means to lose that which we believe defines us. Purposefully or not, all people use personal signifiers to express who they are (be it a punk rocker, business man, or suburban housewife). These identity markers can be lost, co-opted, or confused; I am interested in what this corruption means for the identities tied to them. Director's Bio:
Since her 2007 graduation from college, Becky James has shown her animation throughout the United States at venues including New York gallery Rivington Arms, Slamdance 2008, Sidewalk Film Festival, and Starz Denver Film Festival. In November 2007, her film Crazy Rock received special mention at the Aurora Film Festival in Norwich, UK for the Dick Arnall Award for Rogue Vision in the Manipulated Moving Image, which is a pretty awesome name for an award. Becky lives and works in New York. |
