Synopsis:
Born Without is a tender and controversial love story about actor and musician Jos© Flores, a man born with no arms, and the woman who bore him six children through caesarian births. Jos© is often labeled a "beggar" as he travels around Mexico playing the harmonica in order to support his family. The film includes clips from Jos©'s acting career and interviews with the filmmakers and actors who worked with him, as well as stories told by Jos©'s sisters and older relatives who witnessed him grow up. Director's Bio:
Eva Norvind (1944-2006, Norway) was a well-known sexologist and a passionate filmmaker. Back in the 60s, she was a film actress in Mexico; in the 70s, she became a widely-published photographer and journalist. After receiving a BA from the NYU Film School in 1982, she made several short films, while her "other" profession began demanding more time. In 1987 she became the founding director of the New York based Taurel Institute, providing counseling, workshops, and erotic role-play. In 1995, she received an MA from NYU in Human Sexuality and Health Education and began offering lectures all over the world. John McTiernan hired her to coach Rene Russo in The Thomas Crown Affair (1999) for which she got screen credit. Eva's life has been controversial by choice. In fact, two documentary films have already been made about her: Didn't Do It for Love (1998), by Monika Treut, which premiered at both the Toronto and Berlin film festivals, and Whipped, by Sasha Waters and Iana Porter, was broadcast by the Sundance Channel. Born Without is Eva's first documentary feature. Eva passed away before she was able to finish her documentary. Her daughter Nailea carried out the rest of the work. |
