DJ SUN was born in Rotterdam, then spent half his childhood in Suriname (South America) before settling in Montrose (Houston's eclectic art-center) at twenty.
In 2007, DJ SUN began a new musical journey carrying out his lifelong goal to be a fulltime producer with the debut of Monday Drive (Alternate Take Records), an EP reflective
of his varied background, blending styles and nostalgic aesthetics into a down to midtempo reprieve from the ordinary.

Picture a lush green rainforest in the Guyana range of South America... pan over to a grey landscape of a romantic Dutch Harbor in the fall. Those scenes provide the backdrop for the influences gathered over the lifetime of DJ SUN and what has translated into Monday Drive.
Driven by the positive feedback received from DJs around the world, DJ SUN continues his work in the studio to finalize a full-length release, due in Summer 2008.

Monday Drive is a 5-song soundtrack of some of the musical influences SUN encountered while being exposed to an amalgamation of sounds from reggae to disco as well
as salsa to soul and jazz. Drawing from a rich and varied background. There is a distinct grittiness to his production sourced from the vibrant 70s musical landscape he was exposed to in Suriname. A more contemporary methodology is also employed, however, drawing from the production styles employed by the hip hop and electronica producers of the 90s. His sound all the while maintains the warmth of the soul-jazz aesthetic of the early to mid-70s that dominates his influence—an era he references when pressed to select the source of inspiration for his production. Warm, immediate and slightly scuffed, DJ SUN produces songs which retain the flavor of vintage vinyl, the kind you'd find in your attic. DJ SUN, primarily uses the Akai MPC 2000 as his instrument of choice to lend his music its textured feel (a '71 Wurlitzer and the Korg Trinity are thrown in for good measure). To date, Monday Drive has been licensed to DMX (music service to retailers and other lifestyle accounts), has charted on College Music Journal's RPM chart, has been listed in XLR8R as a top pick by columnist Toph One and has enjoyed rotation on numerous radio stations in The US and Europe.
