A true citizen of the world; born in Malta, raised in Dubai, Brunei, and Devon U.K, Kristian Craig Robinson channels his respect for different musical traditions into the creation of a unique hybrid of lo-fi rock, electronica and engaging pop, With everything from Chinese pop to the music of the Arab Emirates in his early musical vocabulary, the influence of punk, noise and rave collided to create a new music.
His critically-acclaimed debut 'Sounds of the Empire' (1999 PLanet Mu), placed him at the forefront of the UK's electronic scene. 2002's 'Island Row' melded a kaleidoscope of sound and secured his reputation as a cutting-edge producer, the pionering single "Pillow" using experimental electronica to create the perfect pop tune. In 2005 Capitol K released, 'Nomad Junk'. a post-modern journey of playful and melodic pop juxtaposed with a global urban environment backdrop - a heady brew of original found sound footage from Tokyo, Taipei, Barcelona, London and Hong Kong. Nomad Junk made No 7 in Mojos top Dance / electronica albums of the year. Kristian also gained a reputation as a captivating solo live performer, recreating the sprawl of his albums; performing internationally at Sonar (Barcelona), Pompidou Centre (Paris), Autumn Tiger Festival (Taiwan) Capitol K ran a regular monthly club night in East London, showcasing an eclectic group of performers, amongst them Patrick Wolf, whose first album 'Lycanthropy' was co- produced in Kristian's studio and released on K's own label 'Faith & Industry'. Kristian has spent much off the last 2 years around the world, playing hundreds of shows providing guitars, electronica and laptop for Brazilian chanteuse Cibelle (Crammed Discs). Appearances at European festivals, including the Montreaux Jazz Festival and the Tropicalia festival at London's Barbican, propelled him from intimate clubs to concert hall events. the 5th Capitol K album, due for release in 2008, which K himself has described as taped urban drift infused with tropical fantasy. |
