Corto Maltese is a rock and roll band formed in Austin, Texas in early 2006. The band had their American radio debut on Esquire magazine music critic Andy Langer's 101x show the “Next Big Thing.” "Corto Maltese. . . already gain major points for naming themselves after the '70s comic series of the same name about a swashbuckling sea captain. Formed just last year, this indie pop foursome are already building a buzz and are often compared to Arcade Fire."(Austinist) Their song "Man Alive" is featured in the upcoming Spencer Parsons/Line Langebek Knudsen film "I'll Come Running." Though these “Austinite indie rock guitar mavens”(Austin360.com) have yet to release their full length album the band has enjoyed widespread underground/cultish acclaim, gathering thousands of fans. “Corto Maltese are generating lots of local buzz with their catchy, Arcade Fire-ish tunes.”(Austinist) "On the strength of their just released demo and excellent live shows, Corto Maltese have already been making waves around town. With the frenetic ruckus of the Arcade Fire and a touch of David Bowie, "Providence" is a spirited anthem that is fast becoming an early summer hit."(Austin Sound) Reviewers have described their work as "uber-catchy indie-pop and relentless hooks. You'll be lucky if you leave without one of their new demo's songs playing in your brain's stereo on repeat,”(Austinist) and "sleek tightly wound hooks to die for, melodies that attach like limpets in your head space blessed with a humable factor to the power 10 and riffs ripped from the Pixies, the Loft, Green on Red, and the Eskimos - three track demo . . .each cut a peach."(Losing Today Magazine) "Music based on merit instead of genre."(People With Animal Heads) As the Austin Onion writes, "Why suffer the crowds for The Arcade Fire or LCD Soundsystem when you've got The Corto Maltese?"
