By the end of october 2007 Popup will have completed 200 shows in 2 years making them one of the most industrious and in demand bands in the UK with NME listing them as "a must see band for 2007, during which popup have supported Babyshambles, Emma Pollock, James Yorkston, The Twilight Sad, King Creosote, Malcolm Middleton, 1990's, Rumble Strips, My Latest Novel, Hot Club de Paris etc..
In the last year they have played 9 UK Festivals including T in the Park where they were again tipped as the band to see by NME, Latitude where they were invited by Radio One DJ Huw Stephens to play the BBC Radio One Stage, The Great Escape and they were recently invited to perform at The John Lennon Northern Lights Festival. They have toured Texas and New Orleans (post SxSW)and played showcases in NYC and Amsterdam. Their debut single "Lucy' What You Trying to Say?" was single of the year on XFM Exposure single of the year and the follow up "Chinese Burn" spent 1 month on the MTV 2 NME Chart and 4 months on MTV 120 Minutes playlist. The band continue to get good press with features in NME Radar, Artrocker, The scotsman, The Sundat Times and Guardian Music; popup continue to get radio play worldwide and have performed live for numeous TV and Radio staions including BBC Radio 1/6/Scotland and XFM. SxSW 2007 enabled popup to pick up and booking and sync agent, which has led to the music being used by Pepe jeans on the launch of their new website, a Bergamont mountain bike commercial, a documentery on Gypsys and they are at present negotiating for a track to be used on "One Tree Hill". The band have just completed their debut album with funding from the Scottish Arts Council, which they will support with a full UK tour in May 2008 and they will be looking to licence it to a number of interested labels worldwide at SxSW 2008. |
