  Jenny Hoyston's Paradise Island - Spell D-O-G

From the moment Sonic Youth took Erase Errata under its wing, it was apparent that they were not another riot grrrl group. As women whose music was described as landmark, trend-setting, experimental, noisy, danceable and punk, they challenged stereotypes of all-female bands and toured the world for nearly a decade.
On Erase Errata's 'Nightlife' (2006), the criticism of the Bush administration in jams like "Tax Dollar" spotlighted vocalist, guitarist and trumpeter Jenny Hoyston as a lyricist and activist. Equal parts Patti Smith and Robert Pollard, Jenny has a knack for quipping intelligent, spur-of-the-moment pop songs while staying politically outspoken. She is without a doubt a defining female artist of our time.
Despite her very conservative upbringing in Texas, Jenny broke free from bible-belt mentality and moved to San Francisco in the 1990's. This change in locality didn't erase her love for country and golspel music, though. In the winter of 2006, Jenny teamed up with William Elliot Whitmore to explore her country roots on the duets EP 'Hallways Of Always'.
While fronting Erase Errata, Jenny released many records under the name Paradise Island: 'Lines Are Infinitely Fine' (2003) and 'Getup' EP(2001), both on Dim Mak, 'Beast' (2004) on Cochon Records, 'Seeing Spots' (2006) on Latitudes (Southern UK). There was no publicity for 'Seeing Spots', but it sold out of its pressing on word-of-mouth. Aquarius Records in San Francisco loved it: “The second we put this on we knew we had a new favorite Summer song! "Motions" has this amazing urgency, simplicity, power and passion that has seeped right down into our souls."
This new direction of more revealing songwriting led Jenny to record the tracks that would become her latest full-length, 'Isle Of' (2007, Southern Records). Four of the songs on 'Isle Of' were recorded in Detroit with Colin Dupuis, who recorded Erase Errata's 'Other Animals' and has also worked with White Stripes, Eminem and D12. "Everyone's Alone" was recorded in Portland with Christina Files (Mary Timony, Shannon Wright), who produced the track and played electronic drums.
