“Word is out that Charanga Cakewalk's second album is as good as the first, but that's wrong. Chicano Zen is sublime. From start to finish, it delivers a jaw-dropping rhyme of memory, spirit, and clear-eyed reality... Charanga Cakewalk improves on its prior outing by creating something to talk about”
- from Austin Chronicle Critic Belinda Acosta (from May 2006)

MICHAEL RAMOS has two CHARANGA CAKEWALK albums under his belt and a lifetime of experience being a much sought after sideman with the likes of John Mellencamp, Patti Griffith, the BoDeans, and Los Lonely Boys. A new phase in RAMOS’ musical career is being paved as 2007 progresses: Movie Score Composer and Producer. MICHAEL has created a musical/creative haven with his newly created studio The Cumbia Lounge, where he is currently scoring 3 projects: Hector Galan’s Migrant’s Masterpiece and Latin Rhythms both for PBS and the indie film Ya Basta. Ramos is also producing tracks with the likes of CECI BASTIDA and SAHARA SMITH.

Joining Michael in the live incarnation of CHARANGA CAKEWALKare musical peers: Jacob Owen (guitar) is a guitarist/composer currently based out of Austin, TX. He plays with several local and touring groups in various genres ranging from modern latin to experimental jazz. Kyle Thompson (drums & percussion), originally from Dallas, now resides in Austin, Tx where he is in demand as a sideman and session player. Mr. Thompson has played with such musicians as Ravi Coltrane, Eric Johnson and the late Al Grey of the Count Basie Orchestra as well as countless Austin area musicians. Adrian Esparza (guitar, bass) who hails from El Paso, has proven to be the band’s versatile fret-man, Adrian has played with the likes of El Vez, Tito & Tarantula, Texas Boogie Children and many more.

Having performed at SXSW 2007, and with a slate of high profile shows happening in Europe and the U.S. Michael proves to be the restless multi-tasker as he readies a new CHARANGA CAKEWALK project for a 2008 release.
