The Panics SXSW bio

The Panics’ dreamy indie pop recalls the classic sounds of Australian icons The Go Betweens and The Triffids whilst forging their own path in the music landscape. The Panics were ‘discovered’ by Happy Mondays co-founder Gary Whelan and Perth and Manchester music aficionado Pete Carroll and signed to the fledgling littleBIGMan in 2000. They released two albums and a string of EPs independently, which saw them become critical darlings.

Now The Panics step it up, inking a deal with Australian tastemaker label Dew Process and recording the instant classic Cruel Guards, released to critical acclaim in their native country in October 2007.

The Panics’ sound, whilst uniquely Australian, holds an international appeal previously explored through their stand out shows at Manchester’s In The City and UK tours. They previously toured the UK with Happy Mondays and even recorded their first album A House In A Street In A Town I’m From in Manchester in 2002.

Cruel Guards is the realisation of The Panics’ potential, propelling them from indie favourites into the mainstream national and international consciousness.
