The Cansecos are Toronto writing/production duo Bill Halliday and Gareth Jones, with live and studio support from rhythm aces Paul Prince (bass) and “Steely” Dan McCormick (drums). Long time friends, Jones and Halliday’s collaborations are relentlessly in pursuit of the future of electronic rock. Their forward efforts in psychedelic electro-funk/rock production, melded with classic pop song writing, yield “emotionally rich, sonically widescreen mini-symphonies produced in bedrooms for less than most semi-solvent artists spend consulting their stylists for an hour” (Michael White). Their self-titled debut album (Upper Class Recordings 2003) was created using little more than some outdated, falling-apart computers and a four-track recorder, but the resulting sound, feel, image, is something truly original. Their inventive production genius is what landed the track “A Common State Of Being” in star-Canadian director Aubrey Nealon’s debut feature-length film A Simple Curve.

The Cansecos experiment with cut-and-paste sampling vs. intriguing pop melodies, live instruments vs. programmed beats, analog mixed with digital, dark ruminations vs. playful humour; merging into an overall blissful electro-rock journey. Their sound has caught the attention of the indie-pop and electronic underground, garnering praise from tastemakers like Pitchforkmedia, Uncut, Logo, Stylus, Coke Machine Glow, NY Observer, Careless Talk, Exclaim, Dublab.com, CBC Radio and college and internet radio across North America, Europe and Asia.

After two years of intense sound brewing and sonic development, The Cansecos have completed their second full-length album, enlisting Adam Nunn (Radiohead, Air) at Abbey Road Studios to finish off the album. Their sophomore release “JUICES!” will hit Canadian shelves November 20, 2007 through Upper Class Recordings/EMI.

In keeping with their visionary antics, The Cansecos recently marked their return to the music forefront with their self-released disco mix epic “Juiced!” New tracks from “Juices!” like “Raised By Wolves”, “Fight Yellow” & “Seen The Sun Rise” are ambitiously blended with original disco jams of the ‘70s. “Juiced!”, available only on the band’s website, and circulated through live shows, peer portals and blogs has caused a stir; appeasing fans and long time friends at Pitchforkmedia, Exclaim!, Fluxblog & Gorilla vs. Bear, to name a few… the jam is still available as a free download www.thecansecos.com

The Cansecos “Juices!” in Canadian stores & online November 20, 2007 (Upper Class Recordings/EMI).
