25 yr-old singer-songwriter Gustavo Alberto was born in Mexico City and moved to California when he was five. As a child, he played guitar with his father and grew up listening to everything from traditional Mexican folk songs, the smooth vocals of balladeers like Luis Miguel, to legends like the Beatles, and U2. Influenced by the new breed of Latin rock such as Mana and Ozomatli, and iconic songwriters such as Bob Dylan and Joaquin Sabina, Gustavo learned the appeal and beauty of songwriting that crosses cultures and languages.
When he started recording Spanish language material in 2007, it immediately caught the attention of everyone who listened. The result was the EP “La Ciudad” (summer 2007) which melds the musical landscapes of Latin rhythms and melodies with the sonic textures of American rock. Having only performed the songs from La Ciudad live since November, 2007, Gustavo has already been invited to play several showcases and bills with the likes of Volumen Cero, Si*Se and Los Amigos Invisibles, at venues ranging from Knitting Factory to House of Blues. On the heels of these shows, Gustavo will perform an official showcase at SXSW 2008. La Ciudad the LP will be released in the spring of 2008. |
