Biography
...

Carolyn Wonderland definitely has the goods!
A triple threat, with her diverse songwriting,
soulful vocals, and guitar goddess status -
all featured on over twenty CDs - she represents
a pedigree in this business that's hard to match.

A bit of a renegade, she incorporates elements of
Rock, Blues, Country, Zydeco, Surf, Gospel, Cumbia,
Soul and Swing into the musical mix. Recently,
she's stretching out musically, working some
expert whistling and scat singing into her shows.

In addition to her trusty guitars, "Patty", "Tellie"
and "Leslie Pauline", and "L'il Lappy" (as well
as her mandolin, "Mandy") she's now regularly
playing her trumpet... and she's threatening
to take up nose flute if someone doesn't stop her...

Lucky enough to jam with mentors and friends like
Bob Dylan, Ray Benson and the late Eddy Shaver,
she's toured with Buddy Guy and Johnny Winter,
sat in with Los Lobos, String Cheese Incident,
Robert Earl Keen, and Ray Wylie Hubbard,
co-wrote tunes with Cindy Cashdollar, Ruthie Foster,
Candye Kane, Sarah Brown and Guy Forsyth,
and recorded extensively with Jerry Lightfoot
and [Dead/Tubes keyboardist] Vince Welnick!

At the 2007 inaugural Road To Austin festival,
she was accompanied by the amazing Bonnie Raitt,
and performed to acclaim with Kris Kristofferson
and Delbert McClinton, backed by an all-star band
[incidentally, all filmed for a future realease!]

How lucky can one girl get?

Well, with a lot of hard work, just this lucky!
In her words, "I still get to play most every night,
so the Adventure continues; every musical interlude
is a new page, another chance to jump into the Ether."

Originally from Houston, a city where she won awards
in The Houston Press for everything from Best Guitarist,
Best Vocalist, Best Songwriter, Release of the Year and
Musician of the Year - virtually sweeping the awards
for 5 years from the time she was a teenager - she now
resides in Austin. "I moved to the land of free guitar lessons!"

Her music has been featured on prime-time network
TV dramas such as NBC's "Homicide" and "Time of
Your Life" on Fox... Notably, her biographical "Annie's
Scarlet Letter" is the featured soundtrack for Houston
NORML's PSA. She sang the United States national anthem
at Sturgis Bike Week 2003 -- her 10th anniversary there!
She was recently a panelist at the University of Texas
LBJ Library's "Instruments of Freedom" Forum with
Marcia Ball, Jerry Jeff Walker and Kinky Friedman...

Carolyn is also in a few other notable groups, including
membership in the Loose Affiliation of Saints and Sinners
(with Eldridge Goins, Guy Forsyth, Papa Mali, and several
others); many of her songs are featured on L.A.S.A.S.'
"Sessions from the Hotel San Jose Rm. 50".

Carolyn is "just the guitarist" in Sis DeVille, Austin's
all-grrl southern-rock super-group (with Shelley King,
Flora May Holladay, Lisa Pankratz, and Anne Marie Harrop)!
She's a founding member of the Austin Volunteer Orchestra.

When she's not driving around the country playing music,
catch her celebrating Gospel Brunch at Maria's Taco X-Press
(in Austin) with the Imperial Golden Crown Harmonizers
[the first Sunday of most months] raising money
for local charities. She's a performing member [since
its inception] of Austin's Instruments For Peace!

Her first love is her band - the Carolyn Wonderland Band -
and with good reason! Always featuring keyboard genius
Cole El-Saleh and, typically, drummer Michael Lefkowitz
(occasionally guitarist/vocalist Scott Daniels and/or
her former producer and drummer Eldridge Goins),
her years of touring are evident in both the maturity
of the songs and the tightness of the grooves!

Never one to rest on her laurels, Carolyn Wonderland
is back from the studio working with producer Ray Benson
at Bismeaux on lucky CD number 7, "Miss Understood"!
