Apache Beat - Apache Beat - Your Powers Are Magic

Hotly hyped New York-based gang-of-five Apache Beat is not the sum of its influences. While their sound bears strong shades of the stomping dirges of Nick Cave and the exacting delicacy of legendary Krautrock forbears Cluster, Apache Beat forge their own inimitable brand of intricate avant-rock, made complete by the frantic rhythms of drummer Neil; the assured, pinpoint guitarwork of Mike and Phil; the serpentine synth lines of Cristina; and the unmistakable brooding bellow of frontwoman Ilirjana.

At their outset, Apache Beat, with a few first-try demos at hand (including a wonderfully frenetic bash-out of “Tropics”) began playing a series of increasingly epic, raucous hometown shows that firmly held all in thrall, then managed in no time to get hyped in the pages of Vice, Dazed and Confused, and New York Magazine. Upon wrapping their first ever tour in Europe, with the likes of Les Savy Sav and Deerhunter, Apache Beat came home to New York to a hero’s welcome, playing some epic jams with Enon, Love of Diagrams, and The Homosexuals. You may have seen more Apache Beat inches as well, in Spin, ‘Sup, and Dazed & Confused, by the time you read this.

Available now is their ultra-limited Summer Lovers Unlimited debut release, Tropics / Your Powers Are Magic. This release is vinyl only, in 7-inch format, with mindbendingly clever artwork by renowned design house Rinzen. The fully re-recorded, re-mastered songs on Tropics / Your Powers Are Magic truly do the ‘Beat’s live experience justice, strutting hard and clever with seriously murderous rhythm; sinuous, flitting interplay of keys and guitars; and a voice that fractures like chandeliers. Followup single, Blood Thrills, is soon to follow in 2008.
