Sick Girls Play It!
When the Sick Girls played together for the first time at the bar floor of Tresor Club Berlin in August 2004 it was just for the fun of it. None of the girls would have thought that they would present themselves as the successful DJ team they are now, from this time on. With years and years of club- and Techno- knowledge under their belts, they were rather well known for pulling the strings of Berlin club biz, than for setting the dance floors on fire themselves. But the time was right for a new style of club music and this is what they stand for! The Sick Girls skilfully combine the most banging, bouncing and bassy tunes of all means electronic: Bashment, UK Bass, Hip Hop, Dirty South, Reggaeton, Baile Funk, B-more, Electro, Garage and - still hard to find outside the UK - Grime. With this heavy mixture of the latest underground & major releases alike, they proof that broken beats, maximum bass and MC mayhem can create just as much pumping energy on the dancefloor as the usual 4x4 rave. By using a laptop as well as Vinyl and CDs, they are right at the source of the most thrilling new tunes. The Sick Girls will always prefer an uncommon and explosive show to an over-perfectionist but lukewarm performance. They can't hide the buzz they feel while playing their favourite music – they got to go crazy behind the turntables... With their very own party series "Revolution N°5" at WMF club at 103 Club and at Festsaal Berlin, they started to bring all those artists and styles together that they so enthusiastically promote in their DJ sets and kicked off a lively scene for new music in Berlin. The last year has seen legendary nights presenting German ill-rockers Deichkind throwing sofas into the crowd, 17-year-old school kids from East London spitting dirty Grime all over the place, Dizzee Rascal exuding his amazing talent through buckets of sweat ,half-naked Brasilian MCs shouting at the audience and a long-limbed Black Barbie lying down on the stage. Now in the middle of 2007 they have played with the major parts of the major artists their scene produced (see list below) and doing so in the future. July 07 will see a whole tent at Germany´s biggest Hiphop Festival Splash, hosted and produced by the Sick Girls and Revolution No 5, that will feature the most outstanding talent in all their different favourite genres, from Wiley, to Bonde do Role over Buraka Som Sistema to Rjd2. At the moment the ambitious artists are working on a series of mash ups/ remixes for the summer. |
