”A-laget” is Norwegian for ”the A-team”, a name that couldn’t possibly be more fitting for these four young men from Norway’s second most populated city, the over 900 year old city of Bergen, located on the Norwegian west coast.

The three rappers of the group, Vågard, Pete’n and Girson, are known as three of Norway’s prime underground MC’s, but each one with a unique and different style. They’ve been holding it down for their home town for many years, both as solo artists and as a group. The group’s DJ, DJ Boge, is a well known DJ in the Bergen club scene, and has released several mixtapes as well as winning the Norwegian Coca-Cola DJ Battle 2007.

In 2006 A-laget released the mixtape “Nokke feita vol 1. – Utrygt for utflipp”, gaining a massive local buzz, as well as getting the attention of the industry. They chose to stay independent, and went back to the studio to record their official debut album “Rett vest!”, to be released on their own label NMG/G-huset in 2008.

When asked to describe their sound, group member Vågard says; “Well, we’re a bunch of young men that grew up on different kinds of rap music, but being that we’re not from the states we’re not bound by any of the local U.S. sounds. So we’re in the lucky position of being able to take what we like about all the different genres of rap music, as well as the other kinds of music we listen to, and blend it together. And of course, our lyrics is inspired by our everyday life.” Girson continues; “Yeah, but we’re into funky bass heavy and synth based beats, and melodies. We try to make real music, not just three straight forward sixteens and a hook 15 times in a row and call it an album. It’s the same thing when we perform, we don’t just walk around on stage and mumble, we really try to give a live performance to remember.”
