Hearts of Darknesses is the solo project of electronic music producer Frank Musarra. Hearts of Darknesses grew to relative infamy after years of raucous performances all over the globe, usually with fellow Cleveland-based laptop pranksters Girl Talk and White Williams (then known as So Red). While Girl Talk was doing his party-jamz/mash-up thing, Musarra was usually found running around screaming and harassing the crowd in his underwear. The first few Hearts of Darknesses releases (on Asphodel Records, Schematic Music Company, Zod Records and Swedish art-punk label Deleted Art) were more in the aggressive electropunk/noise music vein than anything remotely
danceable.

In 2007, Musarra and Gregg Gillis of Girl Talk started the
collaborative project Trey Told 'Em to focus on remixes and
production. Their works have included remixes for Simian Mobile Disco, Tokyo Police Club, and Of Montreal. Most recently, they were commissioned to do a mix CD for Thrill Jockey Records' 15th Anniversary, featuring over 50 Thrill Jockey artists in 70 minutes.

Since moving to Brooklyn, Musarra has started working on a new full length LP, one that looks to bridge the gap between meticulously tweaked A.D.D. laptop experiments and more 'conventional' songs written with a sort of avant-rock sensibility. This transition is already apparent in the live-band incarnation of Hearts of Darknesses, featuring members of electronic rock band Stars As Eyes and various
guests playing anything from saxophone to tambourine. The songs are still composed and recorded on a laptop in a home studio, but the live band evokes memories of Brainiac, Polvo, and other bands that have little to do with computers.
